Maps completed on 3/28/2019 by H. Kaplan ------------------------------------ Data: OVIRS level 3c (I/F) for Nightingale low sortie. Mapped values and uncertainties are calculated with spindex or analogous methods as described in detail by SAWG presentations at STM15. A brief description of the mapped values are as follows: BandArea3200to3600nm = absorption area between 3.2 and 3.6 microns diagnostic of carbonates and/or organics calculated on un-ratioed spectra (outside of spindex). OH2700nm = hydration feature band depth at 2.74 microns with continuum points at 2.6 and 3 microns calculated on un-ratioed spectra (spindex). Pyroxene920nm = band depth at 0.92 microns with continuum points at 0.807 and 0.984 microns calculated on spectra ratioed to a global average spectrum (spindex). No pyroxene map is made for the Osprey dataset because above-nominal instrument temperatures cause increased out of band in the near-infrared, which affects the calculation of this parameter. Refl550nm = the reflectance (I/F) at 0.55 microns calculated on un-ratioed spectra (spindex). Slope2 = linear fit to the spectrum between 1 and 2.5 microns calculated on spectra ratioed to a global average spectrum (spindex). ------------------------------------ Maps: made with 3146k spc v42 shape model (g_00800mm_spc_obj_0000n00000_v042) with MakeMaps equivalent code. Data are combined on facets with weighted average. Geometry data was downloaded on 3/23/2020 from Spocflight. Map files are subset by latitude and longitude to the region around Nightingale and Osprey sites in order to reduce file size due to the number of facets in the global shape model we use (most of which have no spectral data overlapping them). The latitude coverage is 50 - 65 degrees, and longitude is 30 - 55 degrees. ------------------------------------ Limitations and caveats: some small artifacts (e.g., segment jumps) remain in the OVIRS spectral data and can make their way into the maps. Some data may be affected by high surface temperatures. An effort has been made to filter out bad values including values with abnormally high uncertainty. The suggested color stretch for these maps is mean +/- 2 standard deviations. No pyroxene map is made for the Recon C Osprey dataset because above-nominal instrument temperatures cause increased out of band in the near-infrared, which affects the calculation of this parameter.
