Bundle Description for the Rivkin Three Micron Asteroid Data ============================================================= Bundle Generation Date: 2025-07-11 Discipline node: Small Bodies Node Note: This bundle was migrated to PDS4 from the PDS3 data set EAR_A_3_RDR_RIVKIN_THREE_MICRON_V3_0. For PDS3 data sets migrated to PDS4, the following text is taken from the data set description and confidence level note of the PDS3 data set catalog file. In these cases, some details may not be correct as a description of the PDS4 bundle. The data in the spectral .tab files remain unchanged but relevant metadata was added to the .xml labels. Missing information was added to the rivindex.tab file. Data Set Overview ================= This data set includes 3-micron spectra of asteroids and other small bodies taken by Andy Rivkin and collaborators. The spectra include both measured reflectance and error bars at points in the range 1.25-3.35 microns. 46 spectra of 33 different asteroids, plus Phobos and Deimos, are included. One asteroid, 77 Frigga, is included in this data set but was not mentioned in the published papers. PDS3 Modification History ========================= This dataset was first ingested into the PDS archives following the March 1998 asteroid data sets review. In March 2002 the data were re-examined as part of a general review of holdings. As a result, the following changes were made: - The data from tables I ('Targets Observed') and II ('Observational Circumstances') of Rivkin, et al. (1995) were incorporated into the main data file. - The main data file was split into (additional) separate files for each object. The data for the 1991 and 1993 observations of 44 Nysa were placed in separate files. - As much information as could be gleaned from the published article was used to create the instrument catalog file now archived with this data. PDS cataloging fields have been filled in as far as possible. - This data set catalog file was updated to contain the modification list and the complete list of specific target names for objects observed. In 2003 the data set was updated with the inclusion of Rivkin 3-micron data published since the last update. Parameters ========== The data table lists asteroid number, a spectrum identifier, and the measured reflectance and one-standard-deviation error at 1.25, 1.65, 2.20, 2.95, 3.12 and 3.35 microns.
