Index files have been edited to reflect the new volume IDs. The description below is from the AAREADME.TXT file of one of the original volumes. The new structure contains all the listed directories under a single root. -A.C.Raugh 2012-02-24 _______________________________________________________________ NEAR Mission X-RAY/GAMMA-RAY SPECTROGRAPH Data Set ======================================================================== Introduction ============ This document provides an overview of this volume of this Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous (NEAR) Uncalibrated Data Set, including a summary of the volume contents. NEAR data sets contain data from only one instrument and one mission phase. Mission phases for data sets are defined in the table below. Each data set contains the data from a range of days and all supporting directories. The data sets may span multiple volumes. The GEOMETRY data containing the SPICE ephemerides, attitude and other files are delivered in a separate data set covering the same phase. Data Set Overview ================= This data set contains X-Ray Spectrometer (XRS) observations made during the third cruise phase of the NEAR mission. The individual observations are combined into a single file per day for each sensor. Parameters ========== The data are presented as FITS binary tables (using the BINTAB extension) with detached PDS labels. The parameters listed in each table vary with observing sensor. The detailed descriptions of the various parameters included in the table are given in a separate documentation file, one for each sensor: xrs_definitions.txt xrf_definitons.txt Data ==== The data are in the form of FITS files with attached FITS headers and detached PDS labels. The data subdirectory has subdirectories for each instrument sensor. Files contain all data for one day. Ancillary Data ============== Geometry data (pointing and attitude information) are provided for the entire NEAR mission as a separate data set. Processing History ================== The processing history includes no background, noise, geometry or other corrections." This flag was extracted from the FITS keyword NEAR-008 of the original data label. The fields of this keyword are defined below. Data quality defects flag is raised when there is missing data other fields informational and not quality related. The eight characters of this field are described below. Definition - Data Quality Index c0 = Data Quality Flag (0=good,1=flagged for quality defects) c1 = Instrument number for FC, CTP and AIU (1 or 2) c2 - c6 = Processing Flags not quality related c7 = CCDS Source (0=VC0, 1=VC1, 2=VC2, 3=VC3) Review ====== This data set underwent external peer review within PDS in June, 2000."
