Date: 1994 January 28 Comments: The short wavelength limit of the table, 0.290 microns, was chosen because the atmospheric transmission is essentially zero at shorter wavelengths. The long wavelength limit of the table, 1.100 microns, was chosen because the response of the Varian photomultiplier tube was essentially zero at longer wavelengths. Blank entries in the table correspond to essentially zero response. Note that in the transition region between 0.500 and 0.550 microns, the reflectance and transmission of the dichroic beamsplitter add to unity. The Eight-Color Photometer was a two channel system, with dichroic wavelength separation. Blue light was reflected by the dichroic through one of three filters (s, u, or b) to an uncooled EMI 9789QB photomultiplier. Red light was transmitted by the dichroic through one of five filters (v, w, x, p, or z) to either a dry-ice-cooled Varian 159A.12D photomultiplier or a thermoelectrically cooled RCA C31034-05 photomultiplier. Thus, the dichroic reflectance given in column 2 applies to filters s, u and b (columns 3 - 5), and the dichroic transmission given in column 6 applies to filters v, w, x, p, and z (columns 7 - 11). See Tedesco et al. (1982) for more information about the photometric system. In addition to the filter and dichroic response curves given here, the instrumental system depended on the transmission of the atmosphere, the reflectance of three aluminum mirror coatings, and the response from the combination of the detector plus Fabry lens. Because zero colors were chosen to represent the Sun, the effective wavelengths given in the reference also include the spectral energy distribution of the Sun. The numbers in this file were digitized by E. F. Tedesco from tracings obtained with the Cary 14 spectrophotometer at Kitt Peak National Observatory. Transmission values are given to the nearest 0.005 at a wavelength spacing of 0.005 microns. Reference: Tedesco, E. F., D. J. Tholen, and B. Zellner 1982.
