MSI Mosaic Samples

The NEAR Shoemaker spacecraft returned over 160,000 images of the surface of 433 Eros. A sampling of mosaic products is provided below which should give a fair sampling of the mapping possibilities of this dataset. A tremondous strength of the imaging experiment was the repeat coverage for a given area under varying lighting conditions. Several examples of repeat coverage are presented. A global mosaic was created from 100s of images (F4_16_00N000). Due to Eros' unusual orbital inclination it was not possible to cover the asteroid with uniform lighting conditions, thus gross changes in brightness from frame-to-frame are commen in the global product.
