The data supported the Ceres gravity field determination. The radio observations were carried out using the Dawn spacecraft and Earth-based receiving stations of the NASA Deep Space Network (DSN). Version 2.0 of this dataset adds the raw and ancillary/supporting radio science data from Dawn during the Extended Mission 2 (XM2) mission phase around Ceres. Gravity observations in the XM2 phase began on June 6, 2018. There were no gravity observations between the end of the prime mission in September 2017 and the start of XM2 in June 2018. ============================================================================= ARCHIVE INFORMATION ============================================================================= This archive has the structure illustrated in the diagram below. The archive includes the DSN radio tracking data set plus files (AAREADME.TXT, ERRATA.TXT, and VOLDESC.CAT) and directories (CATALOG, DOCUMENT, and INDEX) which are normally associated with PDS volumes. The primary data type for this archive is the Orbit Data File (ODF). ODFs are stored in the ODF directory. In September 2017, the Deep Space Network retired the ODF data type and was replaced with the TRK-2-34 Tracking and Navigation File (TNF). All tracking data from the XM2 phase is stored in TNF files and is located in the TNF directory. Tracking from the prime mission phase is still in the original ODF data format in the ODF directory. The primary data files are accompanied by secondary data files. These include Antenna Phase Center files (APC), Ionosphere Calibration (ION) files, Spacecraft Mass Report (SCM) files, Small Forces Files (SFF), Troposphere Calibration (TRO) files, and Weather (WEA) files. Additionally, links to reconstructed C-Kernel (CK) orientation files for the solar arrays and spacecraft and Spacecraft CLock Kernel (SCLK) files are provided (hosted on the NAIF node of PDS). The CATALOG directory contains summary information on the Dawn mission, the spacecraft, radio science instrumentation, the data set, and listings of references and personnel. These files are structured to facilitate machine handling but are also intended to be human readable. The diagram below shows the organization of this archive, starting from the root. |===================================================================| | | | Gravity/Radio Science Directory Structure for Dawn/Ceres | | | |===================================================================| | | | root | | | | | |- AAREADME.TXT | | |- ERRATA.TXT (optional, included only if needed) | | |- MD5_CHECKSUM.TXT | | |- VOLDESC.CAT | | | | | |- [CATALOG] | | | |- CATINFO.TXT | | | |- DAWNMISSION.CAT | | | |- DAWNINSTHOST.CAT | | | |- INST.CAT | | | |- REF.CAT | | | |- PERSON.CAT | | | `- DATASET.CAT | | | | | |- [DOCUMENT] | | | |- DOCINFO.TXT | | | |- ... | | | | | |- [INDEX] | | | |- INDXINFO.TXT | | | |- INDEX.LBL | | | `- INDEX.TAB | | | | | |- [ANCILLARY] | | | |- [APC] | | | |- [ION] | | | |- [SCM] | | | |- [SFF] | | | |- [TRO] | | | `- [WEA] | | | | | |- [ODF] | | `- [TNF] | |===================================================================| ============================================================================= ERRATA ============================================================================= A cumulative list of errors, changes, and comments is maintained in the ERRATA.TXT file. ============================================================================= DISC FORMAT ============================================================================= The archive is organized according to the PDS standard for "one data set, one volume." This file (AAREADME.TXT), a PDS volume object definition (VOLDESC.CAT), and the listing of errors and changes (ERRATA.TXT) are included at the root level. The following directories of descriptive material are also at the root level: CATALOG contains descriptive files for cataloging the data in this archive. DOCUMENT contains a plain text Software Interface Specification (SIS) for the data types that do not have a full PDS label as well as other documents which may be useful in manipulating and understanding the data. INDEX contains index information on each of the data files included in this archive. ============================================================================= FILE FORMAT ============================================================================= All data files in the archive are accompanied by detached or attached PDS labels, which describe their contents. Files in the ODF directory are binary; files in the ANCILLARY directory can be either ASCII or binary, depending on file type. Detached labels have the same file name as the data file except that the label file name has the suffix ".LBL". Detached labels are ASCII files. Detailed documentation on file structure, formatting, and content is available for all file types either through complete PDS labels or through Software Interface Specifications (SISs) in the DOCUMENT directory. Text files (*.TXT file names) and catalog files (*.CAT file names) are stream files. ============================================================================= SOFTWARE ============================================================================= No software has been included with this archive. ============================================================================= ACKNOWLEDGMENTS ============================================================================= These data were collected under the auspices of the Dawn project. ============================================================================= DISCLAIMER ============================================================================= Although considerable care has gone into making this archive, errors are both possible and likely. Users of the data are advised to exercise the same caution as they would when dealing with any other unknown data set. Reports of errors or difficulties would be appreciated.
